Section: Paragraph Comprehension
35)
Although the plastic version of the Hula Hoop we all know was introduced in the 1950’s, Hula Hooping has been around since ancient times. For more than 3,000 years, humans have been using a variety of materials to “hoop”, including dried grapevines and stiff grass braided or weaved into hoop shapes. Despite this long history, the word hula has only been associated with the hoop for about 200 years. British sailors noted that the motions involved in hooping were very similar to those performed when Hula dancing. The first commercial Hula Hoops were made out of wood by a company in Australia and were the inspiration for the plastic hoops we use today.
According to the passage, all of the following statements are true EXCEPT:
-
-
-
-
Explanation
The correct choice is (C). In an "all are true EXCEPT" question, focus on eliminating any choices that are true first. You can eliminate choice (A) because it is true according to the first sentence. The second sentence says that choice (B) is true, so you can eliminate it too. The passage never mentions whether children or adults used hoops, so (C) is not true based on the information in the passage. This must mean that (C) is the correct answer.
