9) When Clay first had his cable television service installed, ESPN was on channel 12.  His cable company than switched ESPN to channel 51.  Clay now has trouble remembering that ESPN is on channel 51 and not on channel 12.  This memory problem represents

Proactive interference is when prior learning interferes with new learning.  Retroactive interference is when new learning interferes with the retrieval of old learning.  In this case, Clay's inability to remember the NEW ESPN channel number is a result of the prior learning (the old channel number).
