At each of Erikson's Psychosocial stage, a person must resolve a critical issue.  Those stages are: 
Infancy - Basic trust vs. mistrust
Early childhood - Autonomy vs. shame
Play age - Initiative vs. guilt
School age - Industry vs. inferiority
Adolescence - Identity vs. confusion
Early adulthood - Intimacy vs. isolation
Adulthood - Generativity vs. stagnation
Old age - Integrity vs. despair
